The economy has presented challenges for publishers large and small recently—just witness consumer magazine circulation figures, as tracked by ABC’s latest FAS-FAX report released Feb. 15, 2010.

The report shows that overall paid subscriptions for the second-half of 2009 were down slightly by 2.23 percent. Single-copy sales declined 9 percent compared to the same period in 2008.

But there’s a bright spot for highly targeted publications,

MAP will host the Cooperative Communicators Association 's Midwest Region's annual meeting in conjunction with the 2010 publishing summit.  CCA's meeting takes place the morning of April 8, after which CCA's members will attend MAP's schedule of events.  Please join us in welcoming CCA's Midwest regional group.

Ranly Awards Honor Excellence in Print and Electronic Publications PDF Print E-mail

January 7, 2010 --Publication professionals from around the state of Missouri are entering the 2010 Ranly Awards contest recognizing outstanding magazines, newsletters, web sites, e-zines, and e-letters.

The Ranlys are named in honor of MAP's founder, MAP emeritus board member, and professor emeritus of the Missouri School of Journalism, Don Ranly, Ph.D.  A professor of journalism for 31 years at the Missouri School of Journalism, Dr. Ranly is an author of articles and books on writing and editing, is an award-winning teacher, and is an award-winning speaker in-high demand by corporations and professional associations across the country.

Entries are due by January 22, 2010.  Awards will be presented during the 6th Annual Publishing Summit at the Stonely Creek Inn in Columbia on April 8 & 9, 2010.  You must be a member to enter.  Click here to join or renew or contact us.

The Publishing Summit is an annual continuing education, professional development, and networking event of the Missouri Association of Publications (MAP), a state-wide non-profit professional association of producers of print and electronic publications, and businesses that provide support products and services in Missouri and the region.

Ranly Awards Will Be Exciting This Year PDF Print E-mail

MAP members rushed to meet the Ranly contest deadline on January 22nd. 

Nearly 150 magazine and newsletter issues, articles, covers, photographs, e-letters, e-zines, and websites are being reviewed for winners and finalists for the 4th Annual Ranly Awards contest.  "These entries are fabulous!" said one judge.  This year's contest judges are from all over the country and carry some impressive credentials.  Finalists will be notified by the first of March.  Awards will be presented on April 8, 2010, in conjunction with the 6th Annual Publishing Summit, April 8 and 9, 2010.  You do not have to be a member to register for the publishing summit.

December 2, 2009 (Columbia, Mo) --Nationally recognized internet advertising expert to speak at MAP's 6th annual Publishing Summit.

Shelly Rodgers, an Associate Professor of Strategic Communication at the Missouri School of Journalism, will present “Building Winning Brand rodgers_2010_94wideStrategies Using Interactive Platforms” during MAP's 6th annual Publishing Summit. Dr. Rodgers is an expert on internet health advertising, marketing and communication who holds degrees from the Missouri School of Journalism, University of Arizona, and the University of California-Davis.

Dr. Rodgers' is an expert on internet health advertising, marketing and communication and is nationally ranked as one of the most productive Internet advertising scholars.  She is among the top 10 most cited internet advertising researchers. Dr. Rodgers is the 2010 President of the American Academy of Advertising.

MAP's 6th annual Publishing Summit is April 8 & 9, 2010.  Registration opens in January.
