More than 250 MAP members and Missouri School of Journalism students enjoyed MAP's Fifth Summit March 5-6, 2009. This year, MAP made a few changes, moving to a new venue at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia to accommodate the growing number of attendees, as well as an expanded awards program.

Participants attended presentations on everything from copyright to magazine design, to social media, to grammar, to best practices in sales and marketing. Summit highlights included keynote addresses from Jim Spencer, president and founder of Newsy.com, and Tom Junod, writer-at-large with Esquire Magazine.

This year was the third for the Ranly awards, named after MAP founder and board member emeritus, Don Ranly, Ph.D. The contest received more than 160 entries, with Ranlys being presented in 60 categories. New this year, finalists received certificates documenting their achievements.  Ranly Awards night remained a favorite, with some impressive entries making judging even more difficult this year.
