March 21, 2010 --Missouri's publishing professionals gathering for annual professional development summit.

Joy A. Piazza

State-wide journalism and communication professionals who produce magazines, newsletters, magapapers, e-zines and e-letters, and websites will gather for professional development, networking, and the annual Ranly Awards banquet on April 8 & 9 at the Stoney Creek Inn in Columbia.  Attendees represent a number of industries from consumer to healthcare, education to association, government, corporate and business-to-business publications.

This year's summit features some of the industry's highest regarded experts in design, editing, sales and marketing, such as Don Ranly, Shelley Rodgers, Stephanie Padgett, Jim MacMillan, Jennifer Rowe, Jan Colbert, John Fennell, Daryl Moen, Pat Smith, Mary Kay Blakely, and tellingtruestories' Mark Kramer.

MAP members and non-members alike agree the summit is a must-do for Missouri's publishers.
  • "I loved each of the workshops I attended.  I also appreciated the value of this conference.  To have truly relevant topics for our industry and in a location just hours from home, is truly appreciated...especially in these economics."   The Breast Cancer Wellness Magazine
  • "I thought MAP was excellent this year. I got something of value out of every session I attended."   Inside Columbia Magazine
  • "I found the summit very worthwhile!  The breadth and acuity of the presenters was way beyond my expectations."   Columbia College
  •  "I was totally pleased with the entire MAP Summit.  I soaked up every word. Dr. Ranly's seminar was refreshing and stimulated my desire to write."  L-O Profile Magazine
  • "I really enjoyed Heather Mansfield's presentation on social media. I also dropped by Jennifer Rowe's grammar workshop-and was delighted to find it so lively and worthwhile."   Missouri Department of Conservation
  • "We really enjoyed the conference and learned a lot--a lot of bang for the buck!"  Graybar Electric

March 1, 2010 --Mace moving publications toward a broader, national platform

Catherine Neville has sold her interest in Sauce magazine to business partner Allyson Mace.  Mace has been the magazine’s publisher and will be the interim editor while the publication and its related products are in transition.  Mace said editorial focus on St. Louis-area dining and entertainment will remain unchanged.

“It’s very exciting,” Neville said. “I can’t say what I have in the works but it’s a great thing. Allyson and I have very different ideas of how to take this concept forward and I want to put it on a broader, national platform.”

Neville has been the more public face of Sauce, as the magazine’s editor-in-chief since its inception in 2001. Mace and Neville started SauceMagazine.com in 1999.  The website was launched in 1999 and the magazine in 2001. Their subscription-based email newsletter, “The Daily Sauce,” was started in April 2005.  Sauce is a monthy publication with a circulation of 84,000.  Neville will leave the publication and its related brand products immediately.
